On the one hand, project «SFU Smart Library» is based on a reader's leading role in the library, on the other, on the automazed satisfying of reader's requirements. As we know the main purpose of university library reader (student), we understand requirements of education materials for contemporary subjects. SFU specialists work on the development of several automazed units pegged to personal account of a reader (student). Methodological part of the project represents revealing and satisfying university reader's requirements in the form of downloads and upgrading of recommended literature for contemporary subjects.

The article focuses on the problems of the research into the fund of foreign literature in the main library of the Perm State Humanitarian Pedagogical University and West European publications of the XVI-XVIII centuries as a part of it. Ways of introducing them into the scientific use and attracting students and teachers to the investigation of rare and valuable items are discussed. The process of dealing with some rare publications of this period is described.

In article attempt of the analysis of interrelation of subject domains «informetrics» and «information-library sphere» is undertaken. Existence, so-called, «points of intersection» at conceptually-terminological, theoretical-methodological, practical and pedagogical levels is revealed.
